Bedroom Suite Progress – The Grasscloth Wallpaper Is Finished!

The grasscloth wallpaper in the bedroom suite is finished!!! I still need to finish up some details, like covering light switch plates. And I still have to do the tiny trim inside the closet doorway where the wallpaper meets the trim on the closet side of the doorway. But the grasscloth is done.

I didn’t have time yet to lighten that one strip to the right of the closet doorway. I do still plan to do that, so hopefully, it’ll blend in a little better with the piece to the right of it when it’s done. But for now, I’m going to show you the whole area with very little commentary. I’ll start with the foyer and then head into the bedroom.

I will just say that I did have to use separate pieces for the top jamb of the doorway. That was the only way to keep the widths of the wallpaper consistent. But I think it turned out really well. If I didn’t point it out, I don’t think anyone would know that the pieces on the wall and the pieces that wrap around the top jamb are separate pieces.

Also, I keep forgetting that I need to finish the foyer ceiling where I had to repair it after moving the light fixture over. But that’s not important right now. This is all about the walls. And that’s all the explanation I have for this tour. I really am going to shut up and just let y’all look through the pictures without my commentary.

I’m so glad to have this huge project finished, and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. But I tried to take my time and get it as perfect as possible, especially since this was my first time installing grasscloth the correct way. And it had been over 10 years since I installed grasscloth the last time when I installed it the improper way. (I literally used spray adhesive the last time.)

So now I can move on to the other projects. I might actually start with reupholstery that bench. It should be a quick and easy project to get me started. And then I’ll move on to the draperies. But at this very moment, I feel like I need a nap. This grasscloth wallpaper project was much bigger and more time-consuming than I had anticipated, and I’m feeling pretty exhausted. I didn’t finish with the wallpaper and with clearing out all the mess from the room until 10:30 last night. And even then, you probably noticed that I still didn’t have time to actually vacuum and clean the floor in the foyer. I have a few spots of drywall mud that need to be cleaned off of the floor.

But for now, I need rest. And I may just lie down on the area rug in the bedroom so that I can admire the gorgeous grasscloth. I’m so excited about how it turned out!! It really did far exceed my expectations.

And by the way, I do intend to write a post with all of the tips and tricks that I learned while installing grasscloth. I was pretty intimidated by the project before I got started, but as I went along, I realized that it’s really not that difficult. I found it to be maybe just a little bit more challenging than installing standard wallpaper, but really, it’s not much different. So if you’ve been wanting to install grasscloth and feel intimidated by it, you shouldn’t, especially if you’ve installed wallpaper before. But I’ll have that post coming soon. I was way too tired to include that today, though. I really do need a nap. 😀
