I don’t have a whole lot of progress to share with you today because I’m working on my final big project for the room — hemming and rehanging the drapery panels. My “to do” list for the bedroom is getting shorter, and I’m almost ready to cross off the last big project from the list. I’ve spent the last two days hemming the draperies, and I just have one panel left to go before I can cross this project off of my list.
Until two days ago, I felt pretty confident that the draperies would look really good once they were finished, but I’ve been staring at these unhemmed and very messy looking curtains for a while now, so I was beginning to doubt myself just a little bit.
But now I have three of them hemmed, two of them hung back up with the returns attached to the wall, and I think they look so good. I love a clean, tailored look.

As I mentioned before, since the floors in this room are the most unlevel floors in our entire house, I’m having to hang each panel, and then pin the hem in place while each panel is hanging. I don’t remember ever having to do draperies like this before, so this is new to me, and I wasn’t very confident that I could get it right. But the two that I’ve finished and hung turned out great!
Of course, I did the easy ones (i.e., the single-width panels) first. The two remaining are the double-width panels flanking the door. One is finished and needs to be hung and the return attached to the wall. The hem in the other one hasn’t even been pinned yet, so it still looks like this…

I didn’t get a picture of the other finished panel that I hung because Matt was still in bed, and that corner is where I pile all of the pillows from the bed when the bed isn’t made. 😀 So you’ll have to wait to get the whole picture of the bed wall with the finished draperies.
And speaking of the bed wall, I did end up hanging something over the headboard. Every time I walked by the bedroom doors and glanced towards the bed, my first thought would be, “I love how that bed turned out!” My second thought would be, “Something is missing.” I didn’t want anything too eye-catching and attention-grabbing, so I didn’t want anything colorful. I just wanted a little sparkle and shine. So I ended up buying five of these 12-inch sunburst mirrors from Hobby Lobby and hanging them above the headboard.

I think those added just the right amount of sparkle and gold without distracting from the headboard and the bedding. I didn’t have enough time to get a picture before Matt was ready to head back to bed after using his exercise bike. This crossover period of us actually living in and using a room that I’m not quite finished with has really cramped my blogging style. I’m not used to having to work and get all of my pictures taken within such a restricted period of time each day. But it’s almost done!
When I get the last drapery panel hemmed, and the last two panels hung, I think that leaves three projects on my list. I did paint the side table gold, but the top didn’t come out great, and I’m not really thrilled with the color of spray paint that I bought. I might try a different gold on it. And then I just have to paint the cord cover for the TV and the outlet covers, and finally, trim out the attic access. I’m so close, y’all!! I can’t wait to get everything finished, do one final cleaning, and then give you a tour not only of our new bedroom, but a tour of our whole bedroom suite so you can see how all of the areas flow together.
Last night, as I was sitting in bed and watching a show with Matt on our new, huge 65″ TV (i.e., the one thing he requested 😀 ), I was just looking around and getting the whole view of our bathroom, bedroom, and foyer. I couldn’t see the closet from where I was sitting, but I had just walked out of the closet before I got into bed. And I just sat there and thought, “I can’t believe this is our bedroom suite.” I absolutely love how everything has turned out. Even if we had stuck with our original plan of building on a new master bedroom, I don’t think I would have been any happier with that than I am with our current arrangement. It wasn’t what we originally planned, and yet, I think everything worked out perfectly in the end. And I can’t wait to share the whole thing with you!
